I had to ask myself, if I could go anywhere in the world with my husband to celebrate our 21st anniversary, where would that be? There was only one place that spelled that kind of romance, Paris. I know once the kids arrive it’s not easy to break away for a romantic weekend, let alone a romantic holiday. It’s actually almost impossible, but we did it once and it was worth it. Paris opened my eyes again, to see the man who was standing in front of me. As a family of six, travelling is one of the most important things to us, and as much as we just love having our kids with us all the time, sometimes it is necessary to just have some alone time as well.
Saying good-bye to the kids was the hard part, it was horrible and a million good enough reasons to stay on that day ran through my head but once we arrived in Paris everything changed. Just the two of us, after having four kids in less than five years, I knew we did the right thing. Alone at last. This magical city kept us so busy and entertained that although we missed the kids so much, we had the best time ever.
Are you in need of a romantic getaway? Just a chance to reconnect? Talk? Even just walk, hand in hand without words? I have just the city for you.
Paris is really one of the most romantic destinations. I fell in love with the city, the architecture, the Parisian people, the cheese and wine platters and the beautiful language.
Here are my reasons why you should book your next romantic getaway to Paris. The city of love has endless romantic sights and things to do. Beautiful architecture, parks and gardens, castles and of course some of the best restaurants in the world.
Temple of Love / Temple de l’Amour
The temple was built in 1778 on a small island in The Parc and in the middle of the temple stands a replica of the Bouchardon statue – “Cupid fashioning a bow out of the club of Hercules”. It is believed that sharing a kiss at the centre of the temple strengthens your love and relationship. Take a romantic boat ride to reach the temple which is located on an artificial island in the centre of an artificial lake in Versailles which is only 12 miles from Paris. You could also explore the palace while you’re there.
A fairy-tale picture at night with thousands of golden lights that sparkle, the Eiffel Tower springs to mind when we think about Paris. Irresistibly romantic with breath-taking views of the beautiful city, it is the perfect place to propose to your loved one, or to just get that old spark going again.
A former royal palace located on the right bank of the Seine in Paris; the Louvre Palace was originally built as a fortress in the medieval period. Discover the story of the Louvre Palace at night when it is beautifully illuminated by lights and is less crowded.
Sunset Hot Air Balloon Ride
Get a spectacular birds eye view of Paris on board the biggest hot air balloon in the world. A unique experience to have while you are in Paris is to enjoy a balloon ride in Parc Andre-Citroen. From an altitude of 150 metres, you and your loved one will discover the capital of France in the most amazing and romantic way.
Walk Through Pont Neuf
Pont Neuf is one of the oldest standing bridges crossing the Seine River. Take in the beautiful views of the city and the Seine River and see a statue of Henry IV.
Cruise Ride On River Seine – Golden Hour
Nothing quite as romantic as a sunset boat ride. You can do just that with your loved one in Paris along the River Seine. See some of the most famous landmarks on your river cruise – the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, Louvre Museum, Tuileries Gardens, Orsay Museum and Grand Palais. Rumour has it that if you kiss under the Pont Neuf bridge and make a wish it will come true!
Whether you want an extravagant Michelin-star dining experience or simply to dine under the stars on a barge, Paris will give you everything you need for an unforgettable romantic dinner.
